Vis a Vis, also known by its English title Locked Up, comes from one of Netflix’s favorite creators: Money Heist‘s Álex Pina. The drama started as the story of the naive Macarena Ferreiro (Maggie Civantos). After falling in love with her boss, Macarena was manipulated into committing a slew of tax related crimes. Since Civantos had to limit her appearances on the show due to her role on Cable Girls, the series evolved into more of a serialized drama similar to Orange Is the New Black. Each season follows a different group of inmates, diving deeper into their personal struggles and how they came to be incarcerated. Every woman, no matter their background, shares the same story. Once upon a time these women were relatively harmless citizens. Now, thanks to their time at Cruz del Sur Prison they’ve transformed into prickly survivors.The original run of Vis a Vis lasted for four seasons. The new batch of episodes that have landed on Netflix this week is actually a spinoff. Vis a Vis: El Oasis follows Macarena as she teams up with her long-time rival and queen of the prison Zulema (Najwa Nimri). Set two years after their escape from prison the spinoff revolves around these two ladies as they complete one final heist.
