Stillwater

Stillwater (James Sie) is a giant panda who likes to be very still, quiet and by himself. He pursues things like painting or sitting out in a summer rain. His next door neighbors are three kids — Addy (Eva Ariel Binder), Michael (Tucker Chandler) and Karl (Judah Mackey) — who often come to him for advice. Each episode consists of two stories. In the first episode, Karl makes a rocket ship that he thinks can fly into space. While Addy supports his dreams and loves the details Karl put inside, Michael makes a point of saying that the cardboard-and-tape vehicle will never fly. When Karl tells Stillwater about the rocket, Stillwater tells a story about a man who wanted to capture the sunlight as it went down behind the trees of his village. His fellow villagers thought that was impossible, but he kept building a tower so high that he was able to see above the trees and capture more sunlight. Then Stillwater helps Karl imagine the rocket can fly.

In the second story, Michael is bummed because a summer rain has cancelled his baseball game. He thinks the rain “ruins everything,” but he sees Stillwater sitting in it, with no jacket or umbrella. Stillwater tells Michael he enjoys a summer rain, and tells the tale of a rabbit who planted a garden, but was bothered by the bees that were nearby. She had them removed, but found that her fruit and vegetable plants didn’t produce like they did when the bees were there to pollinate them. Michael appreciates the rain more after that, knowing it’s there to make everything green and lush.
